Default Using Quad View - 11-03-2006, 04:17 PM

In Quad View, I have lost my objects in the "from the top" and "from the right" view, and instead have a blue screen. No manner of alternating between the zoom "magnifying glass" and the scroll "hand" have allowed me to find my objects. Using a "camera move to" method lets me find the objects in the main view, but not in the "from the..." views. Is there a way to find my objects instead of looking at a blue screen?

Try saving the world, then closing out of Alice and opening a new Alice window, hopefully that works.

I hate to bring back such an old thread but I am having the same exact problem. I saved the file and reopened it and my none of my objects appear in my right or my front view. I even tried starting from scratch with a new world and all and those two views are still empty. I know the issue is that I am just zoomed too far out or moved off to the side but without knowing which direction I need to go I am still pretty stuck. Anyone got any ideas?

Lots of people at school are having that same problem.

Alice needs multiple movable cameras, would make it much easier.

If Quad view doesn't work, just try moving the main camera around in circles using the middle control. Maybe you can find it that way. When I used Quad view, I got so confused. I rather just move around the main camera.

This tip's a little obvious, but mentioning it won't hurt:
Make sure the "Fog style" option in World -> Properties is set to "no fog". Blue fog (even distant fog) colors most of the other perspectives blue, including the top view.

I tend to agree with this comment - but will note it's not an Alice problem but one of 3D graphics in general. I can't think of a program that has a "quad" view I really like - True Space probably comes closest.

You can usually get reorientated by having the camera "look at" an object - but this doesn't make the overally problem go away. It's just hard to project a 3D image onto a flat screen.
