Default Texture map the inside of a tube! - 09-28-2006, 10:26 AM

Hi Folks,

This is what I want to do. I would like to take a hollow tube and texture map the inside. That way I can move into the tube and see the texture from the inside. I can make a tube now and texture it but it's textured on the outside as well as on the inside.

Also, Is there a smoother tube model out there? I'd like to have a truely smooth tube rather than the default one that comes with Alice.

Love the program and look forward to learning what more it can do.

Thanks for any help!

I'm going to post a file that I'd like to map the tube with. What I'm trying to do is not have any warping so the lines need to stay level all the way around the tube. Thanks for you help and sorry I didn't get back to you folks sooner.

Thanks,

Lightbulb Alice-Only Solution - 10-12-2006, 01:13 PM

Here is an implementation entirely in Alice that may do the trick. From the shapes gallery, make two tubes. Set one tube to a color (red in the example) and import your texture and map it to the second tube (it will show up both on the inside and the outside). Resize the second tube so it is slightly smaller (say 0.98, though play with this a bit) and then move it to the first tube and set the first tube as it's vehicle. You'll end up with what is show in the pictures - play the example world to see the results from several viewpoints.(To make the tube more round than octagonal, you would have to make more segments in the sidewall - don't think you can do that in Alice.)

Hope this helps.

Jim
