- Thinking you can't do something is a self-fufilling prophecy.
- The best way I have found to learn using Alice is to:
- Have Alice running while you read the book.
- Read the book and think about what it is saying.
Thinking is the hardest part.
- In Alice do what the book is talking about. You can usually start by doing the actual code given in the book.
- Try something similar, then look at the results. If they're not what you expected, ask yourself why, read the book again and try another similar experiment.
- If you need help, ask for it. You can ask your teacher, classmates that are not having trouble, possibly a tutor or a forum like this, but remember, in the beginning, middle and end, you have to do the thinking and understanding part.
- Answer quality and usefulness will usually increase with question specificity I.e. I don't get this stuff -> well, try! verses why didn't this happen when I did that -> because something profound and insightful
Learning to think your way through a problem is a rich, rewarding and usually painful (at least at first) process.
