Default Lock and Click - 03-10-2010, 11:44 AM

My suggestion is very simple. 1. When you get an object where you want it. Make it possible to lock that object in place so it doesn't accidentally get moved. 2. Make it possible to click on the world where you want the next object to appear. That way you aren't having to move stuff around so much.

Locking sounds like an interesting feature, but how useful would it be? Most objects in Alice worlds don't require precise placement, and for those that do, there are dummy objects (drop a dummy at the object to allow you to orient the object to the dummy at any time, recovering your initial position and orientation) and the undo button.

Clicking would be kinda nice too, but it only specifies 2 dimensions of placement. For example, what if you wanted to put a cloud object over a house object. You'd click above the house, right? Well, since Alice doesn't know for sure that you want the cloud over the house, it has no idea where to place it as distance away from the camera (the z coordinate) goes.
