Texture help?! -

I am trying to put a wooden texture on a square shape, so i saved a jpg and imported the texture in the properties menu. But when I tried to put it on the square, it came up with the error that says retrying might fix the problem, but it never fixes it. So am i doing it wrong? Thanks for any help!
