make a person pick something up

Hi,
I am Transformers11. I am making a small movie/game with alice and I am tring to make my ninja pick up a battle axe. How do I do this? Then I want to make him hit another character? How is this done? So far all I have is a character who looks at the battleaxe and then moves toward it. I am using Alice 2.2

You can have a character pick some thing by setting the vehicle of the object being picked up to the character's hand.

I have no idea how to do that. Do you have a demo or something i can refer to to help me do that.
