Default Alice does not open - 05-27-2008, 12:50 PM

Hi,

I downloaded Alice over the website link yesterday. I then unzipped the file and clicked the alice application to open it. The little box with the picture came up (the box that opens before the program does). Except the program did not open. I waited a minute or two and then clicked the box and the 'Not Responding' error came up. I tried this again and again including use the 'slow and steady alice' and the 'if alice fails try this' application.

I decided to download it from the google mirror after I deleted the zipped and extracted alice folders. The same thing happened with the google mirror download. Does anyone know what I should do? (This download was all for my Windows XP by the way.)

Thanks.

That is a very difficult thing to debug remotely. For some reason, some files are not loading correctly or with the wrong access privileged - neither of which should really happen, especially if you are the only one using the computer and it's running XP. Further, the problem could be either with Alice or with the Java engine.

If someone else locally has a working version of Alice, you might compare file structures with them.

Okay, thank you. I am getting a new labtop soon so I'll try to download it on there. I have a feeling that it's something with my computer.
