How big is your power supply unit (psu)? If it is only 300w, then I would suggest this graphics card: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-01G-P3-N9...dp/B001EH8FZA/ Its $60, and its the one that I have.

If you have a bigger power supply, like 350w or more, and you want to have a slightly stronger graphics card without spending too much more money, you can get the step up version of the previous graphics card for only $5 more ($65): http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-01G-P3-N9...dp/B001ENI3C4/

If you want to spend a lot of money for a really high performance graphics card, you can spend $150 for this one: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-nVidia-Ge...dp/B001OV7MIC/ but I doubt you will need that much power. There are also graphics cards that cost $300+, and can run any game on the highest graphics possible, but I have the one that I gave you in the first link and I can run basically any game on highest with just that one.

Here is the xbox 360 controller for the PC:
Wired Controller ($28) - http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Controller/dp/B000B6MLTQ
Wireless Controller ($57) - http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox...dp/B000KA5T6A/

Its probably worth it to just get the wired one, but if you want wireless freedom you can pay the extra $30. All you need to do for both of them is just plug it into your computer and download the windows drivers for free, and they should work. You can customize the controller buttons on any PC game that you play.

If you don't know a lot about computers, you should have someone else install the graphics card for you. Its not too hard, but if you don't know what your doing you could break something or not do it right. It took me about 30 minutes to install mine (it wasn't fun, I kept thinking I would break it) but it works now and its definitely worth it in terms of gaming.

Also another good thing about PC games over console games is that every new game costs only $50 for the PC, where as for Xbox 360 and PS3, the new games cost $60.

Hey Dameria you seem to know more about this than I do, even with research, so could you give me some recommendations?

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975 with 2 gigs of ram and a graphics media accelerator instead of a graphics card (it uses ram to emulate a graphics card).

I was considering getting 2 more gigs of ram to install, but I'm not sure if it'll make too much difference. Ideally, I'd like to have less lag when playing emulators, running complex Alice worlds, and playing small games like Alien Swarm. I know my PC wasn't built for gaming, so I've pretty much ruled out playing serious games on it (the research did tell me one thing: media accelerators just don't cut it for serious PC games).

I know I can only get 2 more gigs because I have windows 7 home premium 32, so 4 gb of ram is the most my OS can address. I've already increased my paging file and virtual cache to pretty high amounts (hard drive space isn't a problem for me). My biggest question is if there's something else I can do in addition to the extra ram, or something I could do instead of it? Short of buying a new computer, go ahead and tell me all the best options regardless of price or difficulty.

Thanks.

1) get more ram makes your pc way faster!
2) i dont think you can overclock laptops but you could try
it puts more power into the cpu and increase's the speed (ghz)
3)you could aways buy a new processer what socket is your mother board?

OK I still want to know that but I have a question! Can someone tell me what a good gaming "Laptop" is? (Preferably under $1000) (But still tell me what a good one is not a piece of junk)

Your not going to get a good gaming laptop for less than $1000. You could easily make a good gamer desktop for a little less than $1000, or just upgrade the one that you have now for under $500.

Oh, and to check the psu of your computer, open up the side of it and look at the power supply (where the power cord plugs into) and there should be a sticker. Look for Output, and there should be a number like 350w or something like that. You should probably have the computer off while doing this just to be safe (you will have the entire computer opened, with wires exposed and everything.) Also touch a piece of metal before touching anything inside the computer to get rid of any static electricity.

Question Desktop? - 08-30-2010, 09:11 PM

Could I get a good gaming desktop (Big boxy thing, not monitor) and plug it into my laptop?
If so could you recommend a good one?

Is this even practical?

Should I just get the other things that you totaled at $110 ?

Would it be cheaper just to buy the graphics and ram?

Which way would be more effective?

Thanks!

Default GeForce 9400GT - 08-30-2010, 09:27 PM

Would The 9400GT run Mudbox?
I have mudbox but when I open it it gives me an error! ERROR IS BELOW!

"Mudbox requires ATI or NVIDIA graphics."

Does the 9400GT have those capabilities?

Also will this fit in my laptop? (I have an ASUS K50IJseries)

And in order to put the ram in my computer (still the laptop) would I have to take something out?
