Default Walks for 4-legged animals - 06-23-2008, 03:29 PM

Two suggestions, depending on what you really need.

First, if all you need is a "dog" - try the Husky from the web gallery. It has a nice set of associated methods, including (IMO) the best walk for a four legged animal of all of the Alice characters.

If you have to do your own method for the Wolf, however, this may not be too much help. The Husky sub-object hierarchy is quite different, and the "walk" is based on poses, not individual sub-object movements. Still, looking at the individual poses and trying to duplicate them with the wolf might be helpful.

Another character from the web gallery to look at is the Lion. It also has a walk method - but this one is based on individual movements. Also, the model structure is somewhat closer to that of the Wolf. You should be able to get some good starting ideas from there.

Unfortunately, Dr. Jim. What he has to do for his school assignment, Exercise 3.2 (if it's coming from a textbook) - Dog to Fire Hydrant, requires that he use the Wolf object. I would assume there is a specific reason why it must be the Wolf object versus the Husky or Cow. (There is no Dog object in Alice 2.04)

On a different note, thanks for confirming my error in version 2.2b about the Handsome Prince.

Default Another Posed Walk - 06-23-2008, 03:57 PM

Out of curiousity, I took a quick look at the Storytelling Alice library and found that one of the dogs in its gallery has a posed walk method that is much simpler than that for the Husky. It basically uses only 3 poses, the default, a left leg forward pose and a right leg forward pose - but still looks pretty good.

I attached a couple of screenshots to give you the idea. Unfortunately Storytelling Alice characters won't work in regular Alice - but if you are allowed to use poses to solve your problem (don't have a copy of the text handy), the method shouldn't be too difficult to duplicate.
