Nothing is virus-proof. In fact, since Linux is open-source, anyone with the desire could attempt to engineer malicious code targeted at it.

Also, the comprehensive and freely available anti-virus and malware tools for Windows make up for the increased security risk.

I ran into a similar virus on my personal laptop, and all it took was one run of Spybot to detect and neutralize it.

I appreciate Linux because I use and enjoy Android (which is based on Linux and is also not virus-proof), but I was thoroughly unhappy the entire time I was forced to use anything other than Windows in school.
