Supposedly a media accelerator improves graphics...

Supposedly a media accelerator improves graphics as ram increases, the problem is it needs some ram for gameplay and some for graphics, dividing the resources of your computer.

I love how my question just got buried.

Well, I'm going to see what 2 extra gigs of ram can do. I'm not expecting miracles, but it'd be nice to be able to play some of the more modern-ish PC games.

Like I said, the PS3 has a miracle-working processor, which it uses to shell out excellent graphics and (in good games) very in-depth content....

Don't know what model you have, but PS3's are typically NOT backwards compatible. The older models were, but the feature required a download of PS2 system data. Mine, for example, isn't.
