Arrow Dogfights over the atlantic (DOTA) - 10-01-2008, 11:18 PM

DOTA is finally here!
It still needs some work, but i thought i would post it up because its playable if you have good reflexes, or know to keep your distance and snipe that plane! HINT HINT and i wanted some comments on how to improve it.

this is more like a preview, since the enemy plane doesn't have any offense (it does have some defense) and the game is pretty choppy, but enjoy everyone!

HINT: hurry in the menu so your closer to the plane when you start!

P.S. thank god for that compass

remember this is not the final...

Great game, only thing that made me frustrated was the camera..... but the intro was great the moving gfx and images and the way you can choose the plane.

Great game, how did you make it shoot by holding down the space? Was it hard or time consuming?

Very nice , and the reflections are brilliant (pun intended ).

One suggestion for the final. When I reduce the view area to get full speed (on my very old machine), pixelization makes the buttons unreadable (see first image). I attached a very quick and fairly ugly alternative - not recommended - but the basic idea is to (1)widen the line widths and (2) expand the color pallet for the buttons.

drjim, ill try and get the words to stick out a bit more...
Cam08, i wonder what you mean by the camera?
as for the shooting thing, its bit complicated... since i got tons of errors until i found a way to make it work properly...

i made 12 bullets(or was it 20? nvm)
made them all move infinitely at a certain speed in a loop
made them invisible
made it that if the bullet is a certain distance from the plane they turn invisible again

when i press space, bring bullet 1 to gun and put visible if bullet 1 is invisible(not in use)
if it is
use bullet 2 if it is invisible(not in use)
if (etc...)

by the time im at 12, the first bullet will have reached that distance from the plane, and have turned invisible, there fore relooping the method

then i said if the bullet is a certain distance to enemy AND visible, then the enemy dies.. (do this for every bullet)


for the sound, i couldnt make it play the sound everytime you shoot, so what i did was i made a variable for the volume, and made it so ever time i press shoot, it brings the volume to 1 and when u stop put it to 0

then i made the volumes sound in a infinite loop, and made it so it repeats itself at about the same speed as you wait for each bullet.

this is great. but i am kinda annoyed that it thats about an hour to catch up to the enemy plane.( not to mention that i died 29 time before that)
