Talking my first tank - 10-03-2009, 11:38 AM

ok, so this is my first attempt at a game... well it's the fifth refinement at my first attempt at a game. i've packed every option i could think of into it. if you have any comments/questions/glitches/ideas/petty cash, please send it to me! special emphasis on efficency and filesize.

I would especially like to hear from x2495iiii and dubastot (i hope it's spelled right) with comments and ideas

(ps, no attachments please! the thrill is in the hunt

This was actually pretty fun, even though there were a few strange happenings.

First of all, the two opponents on the right died instantly for apparently no reason. Maybe they only come into play in later rounds (I played through about three or four). Second, it would be nice if there was a single-player mode of some sort.

I liked the firing method, however, very interesting. I also do like the fact that the game is multiplayer, as that's a bit of a rarity in Alice games.

well, the two tanks on the right died because i forgot to remove the "turnOffTank"method. i was messing with it right before i uploaded it. to fix it, scroll to the bottom of the event editor and remove them from the reset event... and change the comment in the "turnOffTank" method to " to activate, drop in the reset event, at the bottom of the event list."

I don't really have any ideas for a single player mode... i could attempt to write an AI... i think that's what i'm gonna try... like the turn off method, but with a nested if/else that has some movement methods and some reactions to any moving tanks... i don't know how that would react to multiple tanks... jeez, this is great! thanks for the idea!

That was a fun world, I do think single player would be a good mode. All you really have to do is add another boolean and have that go on and off toggling one player on and off.

Cool a working AI... - 10-04-2009, 03:44 AM

(insert vivid exclamation here), it's 3:30 in the morning here!

ok, well i've got a working (i think) version of an AI here. it's only working with red right now, but i hope to have that fixed by morning. something is glitching with alice right now, because i can't drop my boolean in an if/else, but anyway... in fact you could fix it if you really wanted to. you don't need to, but you could. just copy the command structure in world.left to the command structures in the other tanks controls. it doesn't matter for the purposes of this play, but it's not complete until that's done.

ok!! well, when you play it, "red" is going to start shooting at you. this also means that you can't control him right now, so you're going to have to use wsad. you can scroll down to the bottom of the event's editor and raise or lower the dificulty if you like... i think that's everything. enjoy!

It was kind of cool when i got to shoot things, but started at 25 health and then I randomly just dropped to 5 health. Good game though and i thought that the multiplayer feature was good you just need to tell who has what controls.

Exclamation Completed AI - 10-05-2009, 12:00 AM

ok, here it is. i found some bugs, but they're all smoothed out now. this is probably as close to perfect as this game is going to get. right now it's set to single player, with the user acting as red.

please take a look!! I want to know what you like and dislike! everything you see is easily customizeable. take a look at the world methods and you'll see what i mean. anything you add would probably work best in the "reset" event at the bottom of the event list.

again, i would really enjoy some feed back from some senior members, if it's not too much trouble. i think you'll really like it.

I'm not sure what happened when I played it. I pressed play, watched the black one disappear, then shot the green and gray cannons until they died and I was declared the winner. Then, during the second round, I tried to shoot the red cannon only to have everything disappear after the third shot (or so), leaving nothing but blue sky on the screen.

I didn't get a chance to look at the code, but I'm fairly certain there are still bugs in it. Still, it's nice that you're committed to this project until it's completed, that's something I have a VERY hard time with.

Arrow Exausted Sigh... - 10-06-2009, 10:59 PM

ok, i looked at it, again, and tried to iron out the rest of the glitches. most of the issues with the randomizers are gone now, to the extent of my knowledge, so the rest of the problems were fairly obvious.

thank you in advance to x2495iiii if you take a third look at this. if it works, enjoy. if not, let me know. And to anyone who has an idea, no matter how big or small, let me know.

now i think i'll take a look at that tower defence idea...
