switch object controlled

Hey. I'm making a game that you can move around and play several different minigames. I have the main character controlled by the arrow keys, but I was wondering if there was a way that I could switch the control to a different object. For example, you're playing as the main character and go to control an RC car. How might I switch the arrow keys from controlling the main character to controlling the car?

Below are two simple ways of doing that.
Think of it as not changing the controls but as changing the appearance of what is being controlled.
There are ways to remap controls but they are more complicated.
