Unhappy Storytelling Alice Java Error on 7 of 14 machines - 07-19-2011, 04:01 PM

This inquiry related to Storytelling ALICE, which our local area schools just love to use.

The following JAVA error is appearing on more of our XP SP3 machines as time goes by. We are trying to run Storytelling ALICE for an educator workshop but are down to only 7 of 14 machines. All machines should have same OS / patch level / Java version. Permissions for our (student) guest accounts *should* be the same.

Is this error related to permissions (perhaps some student accounts are not able to write to the C:\Program Files\StorytellingALICE\Required dir?); or, is it something else?

Any suggestions for a fix?

I am not sure about Storytelling Alice, but your version seems kind of "old" compared to the latest version of Alice 2.2. See if you are using the most "up to date" Storytelling Alice, and if not try updating.

My best advice would be to try running Alice from a folder on the local directory ( C:\Documents and Settings\<username> ), not the system one ( C:\Program Files\ ).

I have mostly moved on from Alice, but may still respond to messages if important [¬º-°]¬

Delete the folder in C:/Doocuments and Settings/.alice2 or something like that, and replace all alice files in program files. You may have an invalid config.

Few of my friends too had the same issue of showing JAVA error while running Storytelling Alice. He searched all over the internet and this forum and got the solution. It was because of two reasons. One is that he was using an older version of Alice. Second was that he was having an invalid configuration. The first has been cleared by installing Alice 2.2 and the later is cleared by deleting folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<username> and replacing all Alice files in program files. Does alice have microsoft crm based support. Then the issue is get fixed and it is now running without any JAVA error.

hello
