Default Assign 3 - 12-22-2016, 07:37 PM

I am finding the assignments are getting more challenging and I am not sure if I am going to be able to get the hang of it. I have no prior programing experience and think I am going to need some help with this class..

  • Thinking you can't do something is a self-fufilling prophecy.
  • The best way I have found to learn using Alice is to:
    1. Have Alice running while you read the book.
    2. Read the book and think about what it is saying.
      Thinking is the hardest part.
    3. In Alice do what the book is talking about. You can usually start by doing the actual code given in the book.
    4. Try something similar, then look at the results. If they're not what you expected, ask yourself why, read the book again and try another similar experiment.
  • If you need help, ask for it. You can ask your teacher, classmates that are not having trouble, possibly a tutor or a forum like this, but remember, in the beginning, middle and end, you have to do the thinking and understanding part.
  • Answer quality and usefulness will usually increase with question specificity I.e. I don't get this stuff -> well, try! verses why didn't this happen when I did that -> because something profound and insightful

Learning to think your way through a problem is a rich, rewarding and usually painful (at least at first) process.
