Deleting objects ascendants -
12-17-2008, 03:41 PM
Is there any way to delete the main portion of an object, like a person's pody, while retaining a subpart of the object, like a hat or shoe? I'm fairly certain there isn't but if anyone else knows a way, please let me know.

Probably not, but you might be able to achieve almost the same thing by making all of the ascendants invisible and just let them come along for the ride.

Drag the subpart from the object and that will make it a new object.
Then you can delete the original model.
Unfortunately, there still seems to be no way of making an object a subpart of another in Alice.

And now I must ask of you: How do you split an object into subparts in Blender? I don't care if the pivot's messed up, it's just that the M14 EBR's mag is one subpart with some of the back of the upper receiver, and I want to be able to separate it.

Right click the object you want to split, press tab, deselect all, press b twice, then drag your mouse over each vertex you want to be included in the piece to be cut off. Press space when done selecting, then press ctrl+p.
Press tab again and verify that it's a separate object now, then press tab once more, select all, Press Shift+S+4, press tab, then go to Transform>Snap Center to Cursor (or something similar).
That's it.

When I press ctrl-p, it says "select either 1 or 3 vertices to parent to."
What should I do then? (lol i iz blender n00b)
EDIT: Nevahmind! It's just "p," not ctrl-p; got it.
Hooray! Success!

Thanks for the help, and attached is the finished product (picture).
I might release several other models I've converted, but until I buff up my supply, hopefully this will keep you interested in what I've got to offer.
But remember, I'm not obliged to give you these models, so if you want them, don't piss me off.
Ah, what the heck. I'll taunt you with some spoilers:
