Cool Importing files from the Alice Gallery - 03-03-2006, 10:29 PM

G’Day all,

I have only used Alice a few times and would like to construct a short game.

Although the programme has some great characters included, I would like to download some from the ‘Alice Gallery', lets say the ‘Wizard’.

On placing my mouse pointer over the wizard download it comes up with the
Name ‘Wizard.a2c’ but on downloading it is a Zip File, the zip file contains
dozens of files with two main extensions xml-bin and a couple of graphics files png.

I then guess that the files with the a2c extension are just wrappers for the xml,bin etc.

The question is how do I make the files in the ‘Wizard.zip’ into a a2c file for import into ‘Alice’.

Many thanks

The problem here is that your web browser is being too clever.

Indeed, as you suggest, the .a2c (and .a2w) files are - literally - zip files, where we have used a different extension. Your web browser is detecting the type of the file and taking the liberty of changing the extension.

Fortunately, the solution is very easy; just rename the file (from, for example, wizard.zip to wizard.a2c) and then you'll be fine.
