Default Searching the Alice Community Forum archives using Google - 10-20-2007, 09:14 AM

In case you are not already aware of this, you can search the Alice Community Forum archives rather effectively using Google. For example, for those who have questions about collision detection in Alice, enter the following in a Google search box:

Alice collision site:

As of 8:49am on October 20, this produces 62 hits for postings in the archives having to do with collision detection.

Similarly, you can use Google to search for the postings by a particular member if you know the member name. For example the following produces 184 hits on postings by DickBaldwin

Alice DickBaldwin site:

Of course, you can also mix user names with topical keywords. The following produces only one hit on a posting by DickBaldwin AND setPointOfView:

Alice DickBaldwin setPointOfView site:

If you use Google's Advanced Search, you can also eliminate postings containing other keywords.

However, you need to remember that you will only get hits on the material that was already posted the last time Google indexed the Alice Community site. I don't know how often they do that, but as of October 20, Google shows postings dated October 15.

This capability is particularly useful now that the forum search capability is not working.
