I actually use blender 2.58 just go to
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/ if you want the newest version of blender. and I use biturn to convert my models, not an export script.
EDIT: also with blender, newer isn't always better, they are usually beta testing most of their versions they put out, which they want people to give feed back so they can continue updating the version of it, that's why they have so many versions of blender out there
