The way I have always added thumbnails to objects is similar to X:
  1. start a new world, hide the ground or delete it
  2. go to atmosphere color
  3. go to change it, but click on other...
  4. go to the RGB tab
  5. change all values to 128
  6. now you have a grey sky
  7. position your model well for a screenshot
  8. take a pic of it and open it in a good graphics editing program
  9. change the height to 128 (the wifth of all thumbnails in the gallery is 128, but it doesnt matter)
  10. save it as thumbnail.png (as a png file)
  11. open the a2c file in a zip program
  12. paste in the png picture you just edited
  13. done
I've tried that, it just gave an unknown error.
