I am new to both Alice and the community.

In real life I run a company (entrepreneur) around the ideas of Scrum (and agile software development).

My wife has home schooled our kids for years (one is now in a Computer IT cohort at a local public high school).

I am working with my 11 year old son on programming concepts and heard this was a great environment for this. He runs his own minecraft server and is little hacker (in a good way) so I want to harness that enthusiasm now.

Looking forward to contributing and learning along with everyone here.

Step one is to go through the tutorials for 2.2. He is already creating some worlds...

I'll read through here... But... Recommendations on "What next?"

Thank you.

I started with a small class, after that I new the basics of how to program in Alice (the interface, what variables/functions/ifelse statements were ect.), then I taught myself using others projects here on the forums how to make games, I now know alot about how to program in Alice (and the basics for other languages ie. what variables/functions/methods do and how stuff works at a basic level).

I suggest making at first making simple games, or 'modding' simple games. With this you can learn the basics of everything Alice has to offer, if you need help the forums has a few experienced members who are glad to help and assist you with anything your stuck on. (Also sfunk has a youtube channel with alot of good tutorials on it).

Hope this helps,

How did it go?
I've started today with Alice and I've been wondering if there were any resources out there for someone that wants to learn on their own. I'm older (30yrs) but if I had some resources that I could go thru, then it would make it easier.

I did find the PPT files on the main site as well as the youtube tutorials. Hopefully with those I'll be set but maybe you came across some more complete stuff?

You might want to try looking at Dick Baldwin's site. He is a professor at Austin Community College, and has an on-line textbook with about 19 lessons from beginning to advanced. I think he moved on to other topics, but the information is still available.
